In-House vs. Offshore SDR: Cost, Speed and Fit

Both can book qualified meetings. The difference is cost, hiring speed, languages and how much local presence the role needs. Here’s an honest side-by-side so you can pick the right model, or mix both.

  • Shortlist in 5–8 days
  • Hire in 1–2 weeks
  • 81% still on the team after 12 months
  • Pay nothing until you hire

“Most founders assume a sales hire means $80K+ a year. Our clients hire experienced SDRs in Morocco, Argentina or Mexico for $1,300–1,900 a month, working US hours, and they’re usually booking meetings within 2 weeks. The real cost isn’t the salary, it’s hiring the wrong person, so we test every candidate on live cold calls before they’re shortlisted.”Jesse Wright, Co-Founder, Talentige

Choose in-house when…

  • The role involves in-person meetings, events or field visits.
  • Regulation or customers require a locally employed rep.
  • You have no one available to coach a new SDR every week.

Choose offshore when…

  • Outbound runs on phone, email and LinkedIn.
  • You want to add SDR headcount without adding $9,500 a month per seat.
  • You need a second language: Spanish, Portuguese or French.
  • You want to cover more hours of your buyers’ day.

The hybrid model

Many teams keep a senior SDR or team lead in-house and add offshore SDRs to scale. Everyone works the same CRM, sequences and weekly call review, and the offshore SDRs cover more segments or languages. Start with one and scale with the same screening rubric. Pick a market in SDRs by country.

What an SDR does day to day, in-house or offshore

  • Research target accounts and contacts so the first touch has a reason.
  • Multi-channel outreach by phone, email and LinkedIn, following your cadence.
  • Qualify against need, timing, decision-maker and fit.
  • Book and confirm meetings, send reminders and reschedule no-shows.
  • Hand over with CRM notes so the account executive doesn’t start from zero.

Benchmarks from the Bridge Group’s 2025 survey apply to both models:

How to vet an offshore SDR so quality matches in-house

  1. Intake callWe define the role, buyers, calling languages, shift, quota model and budget, then recommend a market.
  2. SourcingOur recruiters approach candidates with real outbound or appointment-setting experience in that market.
  3. Language testsWritten and oral English, plus Spanish, Portuguese or French when your SDR will call in it.
  4. Communication testsWritten and spoken: a short outreach sequence to a real account and a clarity check under time pressure.
  5. Live cold-call role playStandard objections (“just send me an email”, “we already have a provider”, “no budget”), run twice with feedback in between to test coachability.
  6. ScoringEvery finalist is scored on our weighted SDR rubric; you see the scores and notes.
  7. Your interviewsYou meet 3–5 finalists, about 14 days after intake, and choose.
  8. Background check, contract, startWe run the check, set up the contractor agreement, international payment and Hubstaff time tracking. A 90-day replacement guarantee applies.

A simple starting cadence

A starting point for a new SDR on one segment. Adjust touches and timing to your buyers:

DayTouchTip
1Call + personalised emailOpen with a reason specific to the account, one clear ask
2LinkedIn connectionNo pitch in the request
4Call + voicemailReference the email in under 20 seconds
7Email reply in the same threadAdd one new piece of value: a result, a question, a resource
10CallTry a different time of day
14Break-up emailMake it easy to say “not now” or point to the right person

Script tips: lead with the prospect’s situation, not your product; ask one question at a time; agree a clear next step on every call; and record calls so your sales leader can coach from real conversations.

Compliance basics for any SDR

  • United States: most B2B calls are exempt from the FTC’s Telemarketing Sales Rule but not its ban on misrepresentation. FCC rules under the TCPA restrict autodialled and prerecorded calls and texts to mobile numbers, including business mobiles. Commercial email, B2B included, must follow CAN-SPAM: accurate headers, a postal address and a working opt-out.
  • Canada: CASL requires consent for commercial emails and texts, with narrow B2B exemptions; calls fall under the CRTC’s telemarketing rules.
  • United Kingdom: under PECR, live B2B sales calls must be screened against the TPS and Corporate TPS and your own do-not-call list.
  • EU and France: GDPR applies. France’s CNIL allows B2B email prospecting without prior consent only when the message relates to the person’s job and they can object.

The rules follow where your prospects are, not where your SDR sits. This is a summary, not legal advice; give your SDR a written checklist on day one.

Managing an offshore SDR

  • Daily: activity and meetings visible in the CRM; quick Slack check-ins.
  • Weekly: a call review and a one-to-one with your sales leader.
  • Monthly: meetings held, accepted by account executives and show rate against target.
  • Hours: Hubstaff time tracking shows hours alongside your CRM numbers.

Common mistakes with either model

  • No ideal customer profile, list or messaging: an SDR amplifies your go-to-market, they can’t invent it.
  • Measuring dials instead of meetings held.
  • Hiring the smoothest talker instead of the most coachable candidate.
  • No weekly coaching slot from week one.
  • Judging performance before the 90-day ramp is over.

Questions about in-house vs. offshore SDRs

Is an offshore SDR as good as an in-house SDR?
For phone, email and LinkedIn outbound, it can be, if you screen for spoken communication and coachability and give the same coaching. Where in-house still wins is in-person selling and roles that need local presence.
What are the downsides of an offshore SDR?
Time-zone fit and management attention. Both are solvable: your SDR works your shift, and a weekly call review keeps quality up. Accent and cultural fit are checked in our live role play before you meet anyone.
Can I mix in-house and offshore SDRs?
Yes, and it’s common: keep a local team lead or senior SDR and add offshore SDRs to scale outbound, all in the same CRM and cadence.
How do I manage an offshore SDR?
Exactly like a local one: daily activity in your CRM, weekly call reviews, a one-to-one and clear meeting targets. Hubstaff time tracking shows hours alongside your CRM numbers.
How much cheaper is an offshore SDR?
A US SDR costs about $9,500 a month fully loaded; an offshore SDR through Talentige typically earns $1,200–$2,000. See the full breakdown in how much an SDR costs.
Will an offshore SDR work only for my company?
Yes. Every Talentige SDR works full-time for one client, in your CRM and under your sales leader, never shared.
How long does an offshore SDR take to ramp?
About the same as an in-house SDR. The Bridge Group’s 2025 average ramp was 3.0 months; plan activity and quality targets for the first weeks and meeting targets after that.
What tools does an offshore SDR need?
The same as an in-house SDR: a CRM seat (HubSpot, Salesforce or similar), a sequencer, data, a dialer and calendar links, plus Slack or Teams.
Do outreach laws apply differently to offshore SDRs?
No. The rules follow where your prospects are: TCPA and CAN-SPAM in the US, CASL in Canada, PECR in the UK and GDPR in the EU. Give your SDR a written checklist on day one.
Can I start with one offshore SDR?
Yes. Most teams start with one, prove the cadence for 90 days and then add more using the same rubric. You pay nothing until you hire.
