*US figures: national median hourly wage for the closest matching occupation (BLS OEWS, May 2025; junior developer uses the 25th-percentile wage as an early-career benchmark) × 2,080 hours, rounded to the nearest $100. "With overhead" multiplies by 1.43, because US private-industry employers spent $46.89 per hour on total compensation against $32.82 in wages in June 2026 (BLS ECEC). The difference compares the US cost with overhead against the top of the typical Latin America range; for experienced developers, which have no fixed upper end, we compare against a $2,500 a month hire. Why companies hire in Brazil

Scale you won't find anywhere else in the region

Brazil's labour force was 109.3 million people in June to August 2026 (IBGE). That's the largest in Latin America, far ahead of Mexico's 62.6 million (INEGI), and it shows in the depth of senior technical talent.

A real technology industry

Brazil has a large domestic tech sector, from fintech and e-commerce to enterprise software, so Brazilian developers often bring experience building products at scale.

Your workday, with a head start

Brasília time (UTC−3) is one to two hours ahead of New York. Your developer can review pull requests before your team logs on and still be in every meeting.

English where it matters, Portuguese when you need it

Brazilian IT professionals score 551 for English in the EF EPI 2025, against a 488 global average. And for companies selling into Brazil, a Portuguese-English hire opens the region's largest market.

Brazil vs US time zones

Your team works 9 a.m.–5 p.m. in…São Paulo time, Nov–MarSão Paulo time, Mar–Nov
US Eastern (New York, Miami)11 a.m.–7 p.m.10 a.m.–6 p.m.
US Central (Chicago, Dallas)12 p.m.–8 p.m.11 a.m.–7 p.m.
US Pacific (San Francisco, Seattle)2 p.m.–10 p.m.1 p.m.–9 p.m.

Brazil has four time zones, but the main tech hubs are all on Brasília time (UTC−3). Brazil abolished daylight saving time in 2019, so only the US clocks change.

How we vet Brazilian candidates

Talentige vs nearshore agencies, freelancers and EORs in Brazil

Nearshore development agencies

You rent the agency's engineers and pay its markup every month for as long as they work on your project. The engineer stays the agency's. With Talentige, the developer is yours, full-time, and you pay a one-time fixed placement fee, with no retainer by default (a small optional retainer applies only if you want us to manage payment and admin monthly).

Freelance marketplaces

Plenty of Brazilian developers freelance, but you carry all the vetting, and most freelancers split their time between clients. Our developers pass technical tests first and then work only for you.

Employer of record (EOR)

An EOR handles employment paperwork for someone you've already found, for a monthly fee per worker. It doesn't find, test or replace anyone. We do all three.

Talentige

3–5 tested finalists in about 14 days, background checks, contract, international payment, Hubstaff tracking, onboarding help and a 90-day replacement guarantee.

How hiring in Brazil works with Talentige

  1. Free hiring call to agree the role, stack, seniority, hours and budget.
  2. Search and testing across Brazil's tech hubs and beyond.
  3. 3–5 finalists with our notes and test results, in about 14 days.
  4. You run your own technical interview and choose.
  5. We set up the background check, contractor agreement, international payment, Hubstaff and onboarding.
  6. Scale the team. Add developers in Brazil, or across Latin America, Morocco and Egypt, with one partner and one process.

Your holidays, your currency

Your holiday calendar

Brazilian hires follow your company's holiday calendar, apart from maybe one or two local holidays you agree upfront. No second calendar to plan around.

Paid in your currency

Talentige handles payment, and your hire is paid in your currency: USD for US clients, CAD for Canadian clients, EUR for European clients, AUD for Australian clients and GBP for UK clients. No foreign transfers or currency conversion on your side.

Frequently asked questions about hiring in Brazil

Why hire developers in Brazil?
Brazil has the largest workforce in Latin America, 109.3 million people (IBGE, 2026), and one of the region's deepest technology talent pools, concentrated in hubs like São Paulo, Florianópolis, Curitiba, Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte. Brazilian IT professionals score 551 for English in the EF EPI 2025, well above the 488 global average. With a one- to two-hour difference from US Eastern time, your developers join stand-ups and code reviews live.
What time zone is Brazil in compared with the US?
Most Brazilians, including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba and Florianópolis, live on Brasília time, UTC−3, and Brazil hasn't used daylight saving time since 2019. That's two hours ahead of New York from November to March and one hour ahead from March to November. Your hire works the schedule you set.
Do Brazilian professionals speak English?
The professionals companies hire do. In the EF EPI 2025, Brazilian IT professionals score 551, legal 546 and marketing 539, against a 488 global average. Florianópolis (577), Porto Alegre (570) and Curitiba (556) lead the country. Every Talentige candidate passes written and oral English tests before reaching your shortlist.
How much does it cost to hire a developer in Brazil?
We use the typical Latin America ranges from our placements: about $1,200–$1,600 a month for junior developers, from $2,000 for experienced developers depending on seniority, $1,200–$1,700 for QA testers and $1,100–$1,600 for IT support. The US median for a software developer is about $136,000 a year before benefits (BLS). Our placement fee is a one-time fixed fee, and you pay nothing until you hire.
Can Talentige hire Portuguese-speaking staff for the Brazilian market?
Yes. If you sell into Brazil, we recruit Portuguese-English customer support, customer success, sales and marketing professionals and test them in both languages before you meet them. If you also need Spanish, we test that too.
Is this the same as outsourcing software development to Brazil?
No. With a nearshore development agency, the agency's engineers work on your project and the agency keeps the relationship. With Talentige, you pick your developer from 3–5 tested finalists and they join your team full-time as a contractor, working only for you, in your repos and your sprints. We handle the contract, payment and Hubstaff tracking.
Do Brazilian hires follow our holidays, and how are they paid?
They follow your company's holiday calendar, apart from maybe one or two local holidays you agree upfront. Talentige handles payment in your currency: USD for US clients, CAD for Canada, EUR for Europe, AUD for Australia and GBP for the UK.
Do I need a Brazilian company or payroll?
No. Your hire is engaged as an independent contractor under a written agreement, and we handle the international payment.
What happens if a hire doesn't work out?
Every placement has a 90-day replacement guarantee, with terms confirmed in writing for your role and offer before you start.
